Excellent Rice Cooker

Excellent rice cooker. So far, I’ve used it for white and brown rice with and without the automatic timer and it works great. I’ll use it for shushi next week. With the automatic timer feature you set up the machine and then tell the rice cooker the time of day when you want your rice to be ready. After that time it switches automatically into ‘keep warm’ mode so your rice is ready to eat in case you’re delayed. This is one of the main reasons I bought this specific model.

A few things to note so you can make a more informed purchase.

1- Cup size is different. I guess a japanese cup is different than those used in the US. Therefore, 10 cups in this case actually translates to 7.5 US-sized cups of rice.

2- Cooking time is longer than ‘normal’. I included the estimates for some types of rice straight from the manual. The zojirushi website also has estimates.
a- Quick cooking (only white rice): 35-45 min
b- White Rice: 51-60 min
c- Sushi rice: 47-58 mn
d- Brown rice: 82-108

3- The minimum amount of rice you can make with the 10 cup model is 1 cup except for sweet, mixed, and brown rice where the minimum is 2 cups. Mixed rice is one where you ad a few other ingredients that will cook together with the rice 9eg. soup stock, soy sauce). For the 5 cup the minimum you can make is 1 cup for all types of rice except porridge where you can make 0.5 cups. Again, these are the smaller cup sizes.

4- For those with small kitchens, the 10 cup machine has the following dims (WxDxH in inches): 11×14.2×9.4. The 5 cup is 10×13x8.1

Enjoy perfect rice every time. Spend your time preparing other parts of your meal.

low bid sucker bait

This outfit prices this item at 20 bucks lower than others, then adds 20 bucks to the shipping cost. Beware of outfits that do business like this. I would not trade with them at all.

Broken within one week

I bought one of these at a local hardware store and it was broken within one week. The mechanism for spooling the hose onto the reel broke off. It is still usable without it but now the hose gets trapped between the reel and the inside wall. Poor design.

ONLY 500 Plain Shank Full Head Framing Nail?

I am not one to put down any one or any company but why would I look at this product twice when I can get the same size Plain Shank Full Head Framing Nail in a 4000 pack at a one word company that starts with an “L” for $30.00. That’s over 3000 extra nails for the same price. It will be interesting to see if this review shows up. I have used this brand and see no difference then other brands for less money such as Grip Rite. I have looked at the (review guidelines) I do not own stock in any home building supply company but I would like to see my fellow tool users get the most value for there money. Price, quantity and quality go hand and hand with any product. My name is Scott I am a tool addict. Thanks for letting me share.

pretty quiet. fast FW800. mostly problem free

Previously I had an OWC 1TB drive as back up for my iMac. It was in RAID-0 and also FW800 so it was fast. But loud! And I would only turn it on for backing up data.

It stopped working after a year so I purchased a couple LaCie 750GB drives. They are the piano black ones and look great, but they are too loud to leave on and also there is just no way to go back to the slower FW400.

So looking at other external hard drive options I looked at the ones from Seagate. I had previous luck with them when I used them for my Window’s machines (Still have one for emergency iTunes back-up but it’s only 150GB).

It was a relief to find that this drive runs as quiet as my previous Seagate drives. I used the long FW800 cord I had from my OWC connection so it sits on the floor aside my computer desk and most of the time I can not hear it. That’s awesome because I leave it powered up (there is no on/off switch) and it’s ready for use whenever.

It’s great to have the speed of FW800 again.

Now to the one problem. As some reviewers have stated with the 1TB Seagate, this drive can disconnect itself. After it happened the first time, I looked in my iMac energy saving settings and deselected “turn off hard drives when able”.

I thought I was so smart but just yesterday I awoke my iMac from sleep and got the warning that I had disconnected my drive improperly. I was worried about losing data but it’s happened twice and after repowering the Seagate drive it reconnects and all is as before.

Because it is quiet and fast I am still glad that I got the drive and just hope that the disconnecting itself won’t happen again.
