Wonderful drive with one big flaw
Let’s start with the only big flaw of this drive. The clear glass that allows you to see the drive. Great in theory, but not in practicality. To see the hard drive work you either need to mount it outside of the computer or to the glass [...]

WD1600AAJB Western, Does the job

Does the job
This drive is exactly as advertised. It is a bare drive, no cables or mounting gear included (although you probably don’t need either). It does not include instructions either; so you should know what you are doing if you are buying this hardware. It is an excellent choice for an older computer.

Poor backup option in image mode
If you purchased this drive and software (as I did) to restore after system crashes you may be in for a rude surprise - the included Safetydrill software does not (as claimed) delete older versions of backups as required to make space for newer ones, instead it MOVES them to [...]

Tight little package
I openned up the box and immediately dodged all the manuals like I always do. I’ve owned a Seagate FreeAgent 120 and Iomega iGo so I figure this would be cake. Plugged it into my XP system and it detected it right away, the blue lights came on but the fun paused there. [...]

WDMLZ5000TN Western, Differences between it and..

Differences between it and the Essential
The reviewer who said that this product is identical as the WD Passport Essential (other than the soft finish) is incorrect. The two big features that are included with the Elite are backup software and a capacity gauge. You also get remote access software (no biggie for me). [...]

Amazing performance…
I bought this for my late 2008 MacBook 13″ since it was about half the price of the Apple upgrade and it has performed beyond expectation. I thought It would be a similar performer compared to the included standard 160GB drive considering the pausing reported by others. Instead it completely transformed the performance of [...]

IMPORTANT UPDATE: DRIVER HAS FAILED, READ THE END OF THE REVIEW BEFORE BUYING!!!!!!!!!! (Amazon doesn’t allow me to change from five to zero stars)
I purchased this external HD mainly for backups of my HP laptop and my wife’s Mackbook. The main reason for choosing this model was that it is one of the [...]

WARNING - not what the description says!
The description for this product says “Full kit includes drive cables, installation and management software, and illustrated instructions”. All I got was an OEM drive… just the drive with no cable, rails, software, instructions or anything else. I don’t know if an underpaid stockboy just screwed up [...]
